Style Resolution 2: To be ladylike

Platforms or wedges have been an extensive part of my life, and my style resolution number 2, is to switch it up. I shall start wearing single-soled, pointed-toe pumps. I’m going to be ladylike, just like the ladies from the Hollywood Golden era.

I’m glad single-soled pumps are back to stay, and I must add that it will be a sustainable fashion trend or piece that every girl has. This does not mean I will abandon my platforms, they are just too comfy. And this does not mean I am going to be on a wild shoe hunt searching for single-soled pumps, as my style resolution 2.1 is to not shop impulsively for shoes. (Note: shoes only)

Style Resolution 1: Prints to stay

A start of a new year, and new resolutions to make. The first installment, of many more to come this month, is to be bold with prints. 2012 was a year designers sent out loads of prints on the runway, from 3.1 Phillip Lim , Fendi and the mistress of prints herself, Mary Katrantzou.

The golden rule: The bolder the better! Definitely not for the faint-hearted.

NYFW Spring Summer 2013 Review Part 1

One thing I love about New York Fashion week are up-and coming designers, or designers with the cool girl, edgy, sharp aesthetics. The brands I usually look out for are Boy by Band of Outsiders, Altuzarra, Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and the list goes on and on.

Boy by Band of Outsiders

This season, Boy by Band of Outsiders has gone grundgier, with the it’s classic tom-boy aesthetics. Girls dressed in bandeau tops, with khaki jackets, crop tops and athletic pants. Scott Sternberg probably has the cool girls in mind (Kate Bosworth), with the floaty dresses, edging them with gladiator sandals.

Altuzarra

Joseph Altuzzara had an amazing show last season, proving himself as an amazing tailor. This season he has done it again with great, sharp capes, and trousers – very much reminding me of aviators in the 1920′s. The collection looked fuss-free for every day wear, with great cuts, pockets and separates. Straight into the evening wear, Altuzarra brought a Givenchy-darkness, with gold trimmings and intricate details.

3.1 Phillip Lim

It is very apparent Phillip Lim was inspired by the 90′s grunge-era. The 1st look deceived me with it’s girly prints, and what seemed like a skirt, was a pair of baggy shorts. The collection got bigger and baggier, yet keeping to it’s girly aesthetic. There were jumpsuits, sweatshirts, crop tops, jean on jean on the runway. I was extremely thrilled when I saw the pink jumpsuit, feels a little less Queens, more model off-duty. This was a standout piece for me, reminiscence of Alexa Chung’s famous denim overalls.

J. Crew

Jenna Lyons probably styled J. Crew to her own liking, preppy chic, with separates and great pant suits of spring/ summer prints.  The collection was an eclectic mix of prints, good to be worn together or separately with basics.

Victoria, Victoria Beckham

A diffusion from her main line, Victoria Beckham has strayed away from her typical ladylike looks, for a more girly fashion with her statement shift dresses and flatworms. Victoria has a more relaxed feel to the collection, perhaps for a younger Beckham in 2012. The collection was definitely Spring Summer -inspired with it’s bright colors and prints, very much unlike of Beckham, but a refreshing collection from Beckham.

More to come… Just too many favorites

Honor NYFW Spring Summer 2013

New York Spring Summer 2013 Fashion Week just ended. One of my favorite has to be Honor. It has been seen on Hollywood most stylish actresses, to name a few, Kirsten Dunst, Kate Bosworth and Zooey Deschanel.

Not moving away from her feminine aesthetic, Honor’s Giovanna Randall Spring Summer collection infused feminine details with strong details and structure. Keeping the looks modern yet lady-like and modest, she played around floral prints and neon colors, with knee-length dresses and sheer panels. One word to describe this collection is ‘LOVELY’.

Here are some of my favorite looks.

Current Obsession: All things Olympia Le-Tan

I have to admit I’ve got a slight obsession with all things Olympia Le-Tan. And it’s not only me. It seems every New York downtown girl, aka Anabelle Dexter Jones, and fashion editors are toting her designs around town.ImageThe slightly kooky French designer is known for creating one-of-a-kind embroidered book clutches, handmade with love in France. The line had expanded to include larger messenger bags, milk bags (yes, in the shape of milk cartons) and round shoulder strap bags.ImageImageImage

What make these bags standout and to justify that almost 1000 euros price-tag, you might ask:

1. They’re handmade with love in France
2. The famous London Liberty-print is sewn into its interior
3. They are quirkily designed, from taking inspiration from famous literary book covers, to imitating a caviar tin and even dental flossImageWhat’s not to love about Olympia. Browse through olympialetan.com and show your support for this lovely French lady.

We’re loving textures

This season designers are mixing it up, with mix-and-match of prints and textures. I’m enjoying every bit of the summer heat mixing up my printed linen pants with lace crop tops, keeping it a bit 90′s yet current. This is what I’ve been wearing all summer.

Top – Monki
Pants – Topshop
Bag – Celine

It does take a little more guts to wear a less co-ordinated outfit. Take in mind, who is to judge. Own that outfit! After all, fashion is about having fun and expressing yourself.

To our lovely readers, be adventurous with your prints this summer!

On board the Louis Vuitton Express

Yes, Louis Vuitton is all over the news. First with the Yayoi collaboration, and now with its flagship maison in Shanghai,  to celebrate it’s 20th anniversary in the fashion capital of China.ImageTo welcome this new maison, Louis Vuitton hired the man behind The Selby to document his journey from Paris to Shanghai, via one form of transportation – Rail. Sounds unbelievable, but it is actually do-able. This is in-line with Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2013 collection, with models (being disguised as travelers) sashaying down the train onto the platform.ImageThis is a feat for Louis Vuitton, to combine the heritage and luxuriousness of Louis Vuitton, and make it relevant to today’s era by hiring Todd Selby. The journey through Europe and China had been well-documented through daily videos, photographs and commentaries by Selby.
